15c Black, F. Grill (98). Described by the P.F. as regummed, but in our opinion this stamp has original gum (see notes below), lightly hinged, almost perfectly centered with extraordinarily wide margins all around, proof-like impression on fresh paper, clear and well-defined grill points

EXTREMELY FINE. A 15-CENT F GRILL WITH MARGIN WIDTH AND CENTERING RARELY ENCOUNTERED IN THIS ISSUE.

The 15c F Grill is very rare and desirable in either Very Fine or Extremely Fine condition. However, only a few existing copies have the margin width of the stamp offered here. With due respect to the P.F. Expert Committee, we strongly disagree with the opinion that this stamp is regummed. Grills were applied after gumming, therefore, original gum always shows the effect of grilling. The gum on this stamp shows such effects and thus cannot be regummed. However, the P.F. has refused to certify the gum as original, even during the reconsideration process when other experts' opinions were offered. Prospective bidders are welcome to compare this stamp to the two 15c F Grill stamps that follow, to anyone it will be apparent that the gum is original, the obstinate P.F. opinion notwithstanding.
