and Poster Stamps

1900

(Click on any image to view an enlarged version)

Sokol postcard, German spelling deleted, with vignette of the II. Slet's painting by František Ženišek (1849-1916) , and text: "Remember brothers' units in danger" franked with Franz Josef 5 h. stamp cancelled with Cesky Dub bi-lingual postmark dated 26.10.00; addressed to Semily, and bearing its bi-lingual arrival handstamp of the next day. Circular cachet of Okresní hospodářská záložna = District Economic Credit. (Záložna is a member-owned financial cooperative - in the US we would call this a Credit Union).

See 1891 page for a card with larger version of this image.

Štefan Šuták informs me that the message on the postcard above is a "request to send hectograph mass (gelatin) and ink." I had never even heard of a hectograph - DETAILS HERE. See more cards to that address, and the same requests, on the pages for 1898 and 1899.
