After the Communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948,
Sokol was tolerated for a short time, but soon its patriotic
fervor aroused the fears of the oppressors, and in 1952 it was completely outlawed.
Its leaders were arrested, some were imprisoned, all were harrassed.
